We had a great workshop with Candlewick editor Carter Hasegawa May 22-23. It was on Zoom, and it was a small group where everyone had a chance to share with other attendees and also get feedback from Carter. The first day we worked on voice and setting up our first lines of our stories. We learned how to set the character, setting and the conflict in the first lines of our story. Carter did one on one critiques in the afternoon.
For day two, Carter went through his process of acquiring a manuscript and turning it into a publication. He walked us through getting the submission, to edits and then to the final book. It was very informative. We then had a round table critique of our WIP.
I got a lot of great feedback from attendees, and everyone appreciated that we kept the workshop small. It gave everyone a chance to feel like they were a part of the group. It also allowed for them to get some good feedback from Carter.
