First page sessions are a great way to get quick feedback on your manuscript. For our second session for middle grade writers, we have invited author, Carolyn Flores, to be our guest mentor. Carolyn has produced several bilingual picture books, poems and illustrations for the Children’s book market.

All Hawaii chapter members are welcome to attend free, BUT only 8 manuscript slots, 25$ each, are available on a first come, first served basis. We will send a link to Zoom to attendees prior to the event.

During the two hour session, each manuscript will get 15 minutes of critique time. When registering, be aware that we will be sharing manuscripts on the screen, and reading them aloud. Carolyn will then give her first impression on the manuscript. Even if you miss the opportunity to submit your own manuscript, this is a terrific opportunity for all to hear from a seasoned author, and learn from others.

Please submit your manuscript first page up to 500 words or less.

Deadline for submitting your manuscript is one week before the event. April 27, 21. After Booking please send first pages to with FIRST PAGES in the subject line. Please label your word document or PDF file with the manuscript title. If you wish to remain anonymous, please indicate that in your email, and make sure it’s not in the document either.
