Online Hui with in-coming Regional Advisor, Akiko White, Cakelustrator
Zoom Online Meeting link will be sent to registered attendees the day before the event (May 22nd). Please RSVP no later than May 22nd, 9 am.
Making a presence online may not be the first thing you believe to be important, but it will come into play as you are creating a name for yourself. Just like most jobs, the publishers will get your query and the first thing they will do, if they are interested is Google your name or look at your website. And even after you land a contract, you will be expected to do much of your own marketing.
Topics will include setting up your website, what should be on it, the three main social media sites (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook).
There will be a Q & A afterwards.
When I was only four years old my mother introduced me to painting and my grandmother shared her baking secrets with me. This inspired me to create the kind of art I make today. I received a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the McNay Art Institute and have worked as a professional illustrator and graphic designer. I have also taught digital and traditional illustration as an adjunct professor.
In 2014, I won The Tomie dePaola award through the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. In 2015, I won best in show at That Takes the Cake Show in Austin, Texas. In 2016, I participated on Food Network’s Cake Wars with the Best Designed Cake in Cake Wars History!
As the next Regional Advisor for SCBWI Hawaii, I would like for our chapter to become a great community of friends who support each other in our journey to publication and beyond. I would like to connect our authors and illustrators with local booksellers, Publishers, librarians and teachers. My hope is that by creating a strong community of like-minded people we will all have success in the children’s book world.
I’m looking forward to meeting all of you and working together to make our SCBWI Hawaii chapter a great community!
